CURSA SOLIDÀRIA PEL SUDAN DEL SUD - 19 Març - Verdú

Vine el Diumenge 19 de març a participar a la FESTA FAMILIAR ESPORTIVA I SOLIDÀRIA A VERDÚ (prop de Tàrrega, Urgell, Catalunya).

• Es tracta de formar equip de 4 persones per córrer (o caminar) 5 km al voltant de Verdú  (Urgell) lloc de naixement de Sant Pere Claver, patró dels Jesuïtes de Catalunya.
• Si vols inscriure't i no tens group, tranquil. Nosaltres et busquem grup. 
• No és una cursa de relleus: simplement cal que els 4 membres de cada equip comencin i acabin junts. 
• Hi haurà premis per diferents categories. Però no cal ser un atleta professional per poder participar.

Cada equip es compromet a aportar un mínim de 100 Euros (25 euros per persona).

• Diumenge 19 Març. A partir de les 11:30 al Casal Social de Verdú. La sortida serà a les 12:00
• A partir de les 13:30 acabarem la festa amb una BOTIFARRADA (preu inclòs en la inscripció) i un BINGO benèfic.

Released in 2014, Beats of the Antonov is a very well done, informative and thought provoking documentary which portrays the people of Blue Nile with whom we journey here in Maban.

For those of you not familiar with the term Antonov you can check one of my previous posts here.

N.B. Since it is a documentary I would have appreciated if the director would have not mixed so liberally images and testimonies from such diverse places such as: Nuba Mountains, Blue Nile and Maban refugee camps as if they were the one and same thing. Unless it is intentional, in which case it is an unfair simplification.

EDUCATION - CLAIMING BACK LEARNING SPACES

"In Upper Nile alone, 63 percent of schools are still occupied by armed forces, but communities are slowly claiming back their learning spaces as peace seems to finally settle in. 

Three years ago, in Maban county, a vocational training centre built with foreign aid money was handed over to the South Sudanese government, neglected and eventually looted before being occupied by a local militia– serving as their military barracks – in mid-2014.

In late 2015, the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) requested the Maban County Commissioner to negotiate to re-establish the space as a place of learning. The centre was demilitarised and the school, now named the Arrupe Learning Centre, offers English, computer and teacher training courses."

"Hoy, en el Alto Nilo, Sudán del Sur, es más probable que un estudiante de escuela primaria se encuentre con milicianos armados en su aula que con profesores con tiza y libros en la mano. El sesenta y tres por ciento de las escuelas de la zona están ocupadas por fuerzas militares, pero las comunidades van recuperando tímidamente sus espacios de aprendizaje.

English lessons - Arrupe Learning Centre - October 2015

 Hace tres años, en el condado de Maban, un centro de formación profesional construido con dinero de la ayuda internacional fue entregado al gobierno de Sudán del Sur, que lo descuidó, que posteriormente fue saqueado y que, finalmente, fue ocupado por una milicia local, que lo utilizó como cuartel.

A finales de 2015, el Servicio Jesuita a Refugiados (JRS) pidió al comisionado del condado de Maban  que negociara el restablecimiento de ese espacio como lugar de aprendizaje. La escuela, ahora llamada Centro de Enseñanza Arrupe, ofrece cursos de inglés, informática y de formación de docentes."
